Then came North Olmsted High School, where she turned out to be an average student (contrary to her mother's predictions). During high school Kathleen was interested in drama and choir (you should have seen her in Godspell!), and she had an opportunity to spend the summer of 1979 in Denmark as a foreign exchange student (the stories of her escape from the host family rival any wartime chronicles...)

Along with nearly 800 of her closest friends, Kathleen graduated in 1980 and prepared to enter Bowling Green State University. After one year of college life, she opted to return to Cleveland. Changing directions, in 1982 she earned her certificate in paralegal studies from the now-defunct Ohio Paralegal Institute. After graduation she worked briefly for a Workers Comp attorney before deciding they all must be looney (with the sole exception of her Uncle Dave, of course), whereupon she returned to BGSU determined to get a degree.

On May 11, 1986 Kathleen received a gold Seiko watch (which she still has, and it still works!) from her father, in recognition of the conferring of her BA degree "...with all the rights and responsibilities pertaining thereunto..."

In the Fall of 1987, Kathleen entered the University of Cincinnati graduate program in Political Science, determined to earn a doctorate and teach politial theory on the college level. No, I'm not kidding. But watch...

Mid-way through her master's program, Kathleen had yet another change of heart and opted to conclude her formal studies at the masters level. Several years later (at the persistent urging of friends) Kathleen accompanied Terri Lainge to a singles dance where she met a really tall bearded fellow by the name of Tom Byers. Their courtship lasted almost six years. These friends were married October 11, 1997. The couple currently reside in Indianapolis, Indiana with their daughter Sally.
